Steroids In Baseball

Steroids in baseball injection pictureThe use of steroids in baseball has been exposed, and is finally out in the open. Steroids have been used in baseball for decades, but just recently have come into the lime light.

In the summer of 2003, the USADA receives a mysterious liquid, sent in anonymously. This liquid, 'the clear', turns out to be Tetrahydrogestrinone. It's an undetectable steroid used by some of the world's top athletes. Later it is revealed that Trevor Graham, a sprint coach to some of the elite sprinters, submitted the steroid.... and the baseball steroid era began.

The steroid was traced back to Victor Conte at BALCO labs, and it is eventually found out that Patrick Arnold was the chemist who developed the steroid. Barry Bonds' name is mentioned as one of BALCO's biggest clients.

In fall of 2004, steroid testing begins under the MLB's new collective bargaining agreement. Barry Bonds undergoes random testing, and goes on to win his 7th league MVP.

Over the next few years, several athletes are linked to BALCO and anabolic steroids. Many athletes came forward and admitted their steroid usage while some still claimed innocence.

In 2007, former Senator George Mitchell releases a 409 page report, after a 21 month investigation regarding steroids in baseball. The report names 89 individuals involved in baseball who have are accused of using steroids. Again, several athletes finally admit to using steroids, while there are still many, which have been accused, deny using anabolic steroids.

In the years following 2007, more proof is found against many MLB players, and several apologies are made. Anabolic steroids are still used in baseball today, and ball players continue to fail drug tests.

Professional sports requires the most talented athletes in the world, and individuals will do whatever they can to get the edge, even if it means risking their career.

THG, or Tetrahydrogestrinone, opened the eyes of media and fans around the world to not only steorid use in baseball, but steroid use in all sports. Not a day goes by without hearing about a steroid related case, or an athlete failing the drug test.

Fans, and parents expect professional athletes to be role models. Because of baseball's steroid scandal, steroids are more popular then ever, in both adults, and teens. Several organizations, and retired athletes, such as Jose Canseco, are now talking to young teens about steroid side effects, steroid abuse, and dangers of anabolic steroids.
